| Joint Stock Company Multibanka is the oldest commercial bank in Latvia, which has the longest experience in foreign currency settlements among Latvian commercial banks. JSC Multibanka predecessor - Latvian branch of the Foreign Economical Relations bank of USSR - was founded in 1988, but in 1991 it was nationalized. Former branch of USSR bank became the Foreign Operations Department of the Bank of Latvia, and for a long time it served as the foreign currency-clearing center for all affiliations and branches of the Bank of Latvia, as well as for newly established Latvian commercial banks. Three years later the Department of Foreign Operations was privatized, as a result Joint Stock Company Multibanka was founded in April 1994. In the year 1995 JSC Multibanka merged with joint stock company LNT Skonto Banka, thus increasing its assets, and allocated resources for development of new spheres of activity. In the year 1995 the Bank became the member of S.W.I.F.T, started using Reuter’s information system, which ensured technical support of FOREX and Money Market operations. JSC`s Multibanka equity capital was increased by its second share emission in November 1995 – up to 2 000 000 lats, by the third emission in May 1996 - up to 2 107 850 lats, by the fourth emission in May 1997- up to 3 000 000 lats and by the fifth emission in June 1999 – up to 3 900 000 lats. In November 2000 6th share emission was performed increasing the Banks’ equity capital to 4 293 700 lats. In November 1996 the Bank acceded to EUROPAY INTERNATIONAL, which allowed commencing issue and service of payment cards in the year 1997. In September 2000 the Bank begun to offer EUROPAY INTERNATIONAL new payment card for the payments in the Internet MasterCard Virtual Card. In the year 2001 the Bank begun to offer the payment card Cirrus. The payment card is convenient in use and it can be used only by the person who knows the PIN-code. The Bank is a member of Riga Stock Exchange, Central Depository and the Association of Commercial Banks of Latvia. In the year 1997 the Bank opened its representative offices in Russia and Ukraine, as well as its first branch, Vecpilseta, in Riga. In the year 1998 the Bank opened its settlement office in Ventspils. Completed the equipment of Vecpilseta branch, and the first ATM's were put into operation in Riga and Ventspils. Developing its network of branches and settlement office, in the year 1999 the Bank opened two settlement offices in Riga -Rumbula and P¬avnieki on Katlakalna street, in the year 2000 on Salnas street and in the year 2002 on Dzirnavu street. Today our clients can be served in six customer service centers. In the year 2001 the official representative office of the Bank was opened in Yekaterinburg as a basis for advancing into this perspective industrial region of Russia. Also in the year 2002 was opened the official representative office of the Bank in Minsk (Byelorussia) that had expanded the network of the official representative offices abroad. JSC Multibanka is expanding its activities year by year, mastering new spheres of activity, and offering its customers new banking products and improving quality of services. At present JSC Multibanka renders all services pertinent to the universal bank in the Latvian market. |
