1922: Statutory meeting of the Hungarian Industrial and Commercial Control Bank Ltd. (Magyar Ipari és Kereskedelmi Ellenőrző Bank Rt.); corporate registration
1948: Nationalization
1952: Name changed to General Banking and Trust Co. Ltd. (Általános Értékforgalmi Bank Rt.), the bank operates as part of the Central Corporation of Banking Companies (Pénzintézeti Központ)
1985: The first branch office opened (Budapest V., Váci utca 19–21.)
1986: Independence, separation from the Central Corporation of Banking Companies
1987: Universal commercial banking licence granted to the bank
1990: GBT becomes a 50% foreign-owned financial institution with equal equity participation of the Hungarian state and the Central European Development Corporation (CEDC)
1996: The entire stake acquired by Gazprombank, Moscow, whereby GBT joins the Gazprom Group; paid-up capital increased to 5 billion forints from 1 billion forint
1997: GBT marks 75th anniversary, share structure diversified, the first country branch opened in the industrial town of Nagykanizsa, paid-up capital increased to 9.8 billion forints from 5 billion forints
1999: Paid-up capital increased to 11.75 billion forints from 9.8 billion forints
2001: Symbols, GBT’s new, state-of-the-art integrated banking system introduced and a GBT bankcard authorization and processing center set up; a branch office opened in Miskolc, a major industrial town in East Hungary
2002: Branch office opened at Szolnok, a major town and railway, waterway and road junction on the Great Hungarian Plain
2003: Head office moved to a new location; branch offices opened in two county centers, in the towns of Zalaegerszeg and Debrecen
2004: Shareholding structure streamlined by year end, to feature two shareholders, Kafijat Kereskedelmi és Consulting Kft. and Gazprombank, resp.
2005: Gazprombank sells its stake to Firthlion Limited
2005: 10 branch offices divested to Volksbank Hungary Ltd., including client and contract transfer
2006: in accordance with recent amendments to provisions of law in Hungary, the Hungarian name changed to Általános Értékforgalmi Bank Zrt. to reflect in the coporate form that the bank is a privately-held joint-stock company.
