General Information
P/F Føroya Banki is the leading commercial bank in the Faroe Islands. The banking system is regulated by Danish law and supervised by Danish authorities.
Føroya Banki was established as a public limited company in 1906 and was the first commercial bank in the Faroe Islands. In 1932 another commercial bank was established under the name of P/F Sjóvinnubankin. On April 11 1994 the two banks were merged; continuing company was Sjóvinnubankin under the name Føroya Banki.
With the acquisition of the insurance company P/F Trygd in 1998, Føroya Banki extended its activities to include home and personal protection insurance and car insurance. The activities were later broadened to include commercial, marine and travel insurance.
Føroya Banki serves commercial, institutional and private customers. The service corresponds to that of other Nordic banks. There are 24 branches throughout the islands, which means a close contact with both private and commercial customers. Furthermore, the bank is fully equipped to provide quick and professional service owing to its variety of products, its branch network and a well educated staff.
